Paying Jail Bills With Opioid Funds And Flood Recovery Efforts In Welch, This West Virginia Morning

Listen

On this West Virginia Morning, as counties across the state receive opioid settlement funds, some counties are using their share of the millions to pay past due regional jail bills. They explain the decision by pointing out that many of the people in jail are there because of opioids.

WVU student Claudia Di Lima spoke with News Director Eric Douglas about the investigative reporting class that gathered data from all 55 counties, and what their findings were.

Meanwhile, reporter Wendy Welch brings us the story of one southern West Virginia restaurant that was flooded back in February of this year, along with many other small businesses. Now, a look at how recovery efforts are going in the town of Welch.
